The Pulpster #35 (2026)

It’s a shame that The Pulpster only arrives once a year. But this year’s annual edition arrives in just a couple of weeks.

Like PulpFest 2026, we celebrate three significant pulp anniversaries in number 35.

As part of the 100th anniversary of Amazing Stories, Jeffrey Shanks explores the connections between the first science-fiction pulp, editor Raymond Palmer, the Shaver Mystery, and the birth of the UFO phenomenon, while Tony Davis interviews the magazine’s current editor about guiding it into its second century.

Will Murray and David Walker look back at the strange appeal and enduring atmosphere of Ghost Stories, which also turns 100.

William Lampkin examines how changes to The Argosy 130 years ago helped launch the pulp-magazine era.

Other articles in this number include Will Murray’s search to solve the mystery of an obscure pulp story, Davis interviews the grandson of pulp artist Emmett Watson about his career, and Craig McDonald considers whether Ian Fleming’s Dr. No owes a debt to Doc Savage.

Also, John C. Bruening traces Richard Matheson’s path from the pulps to film and television, and Michael Chomko recounts the interesting but largely forgotten life of writer and war hero Franklin H. Martin.

Reserve your copy of The Pulpster #35 by either attending PulpFest or joining it as a supporting member. If you are unable to do either, check back later in August 2026. We should have remaining copies of The Pulpster #35 available to order on this website.
