The Pulpster #28 (2019)

Number 28 of The Pulpster just came off the press — well, it’s actually digitally printed these days — and in less than a week it will be in the hands of everyone attending PulpFest 2019 in Cranberry, Pa.

If you’ve visited the Back Numbers section of this website, you may have noticed that we posted an index of this issue’s contents. It’s a great lineup of authors and articles, again.

Like PulpFest 2019, this number focuses on the “Children of the Pulps,” with looks at how the pulpwood magazines influenced today’s pop culture, from Star Wars to and comics (think Batman in particular) to Japanese anime and tokusatsu.

In addition to those cover stories, The Pulpster celebrates the 100th anniversaries of two fabled pulps: Romance and The Thrill Book. There’s also a profile of fictioneer Bertrand Sinclair, whose pulp career spanned almost 50 years.

And, of course, The Pulpster’s editor emeritus, Tony Davis, notes members of the pulp community that we’ve lost recently.

There’s a longer post on number 28 over at PulpFest’s website.

For folks who won’t be attending next week’s PulpFest — and who haven’t become supporting members of PulpFest — keep an eye on here for details on ordering your own copy after the convention from Mike Chomko, Books.
